Tignes ski and snowboard resort information

Tignes is a world class ski and snowboard winter resort with a collection of satellite villages and an extensive ski and snowboard area, Tignes is linked with Val d 'Isère in a region that's known as L'Espace Killy. The huge glacier ensures year round skiing, snowboarding and telemarking and the high altitude slopes give Tignes one of the best snow records in Europe.

Tignes is famous for long wide open pistes that suit all levels of skiers, snowboarders and telemarkers. The off piste skiing and snowboarding is extensive and a qualified mountain guide or ski teacher is recommended to fully explore the region. Recently there has been a big improvement in the architecture throughout Tignes that has greatly enhanced the feel of this popular and highly rated winter resort.

Tignes forms one of the Worlds largest ski and snowboarding regions in the World and has great links to the neighbouring winter resort of Val d 'Isère. The area is known as L'Espace Killy, named after the great French Olympic downhill skier, Jean-Claude Killy who lives in the region.

L'Espace Killy provides a variety of skiing and snowboarding that is hard to beat and skiers, snowboarders and telemarkers come back year after year and still discover new areas to explore. If the huge ski area of L'Espace Killy is not enough to keep you occupied then the winter resorts of Les Arcs and La Plagne are within one hours drive.

Tignes, France

Tignes divides itself into four main centres of accommodation. Val Claret is directly below the Grand Motte area where an efficient funicular railway takes you up towards the glacier. Val Claret is a mixture of apartments and hotels with a good selection of bars and restaurants. For mountain access convenience Val Claret is hard to beat. Tignes Le Lac is a pleasant sector that sits directly next to a huge frozen lake in winter. Le Lavachet consists of apartments and chalets with good access to the L'Espace Killy ski and snowboard area. Way down below the main resort of Tignes lies Tignes-les-Brévières, a real contrast to the modern resort of Tignes above with its old traditional style buildings and quiet ambience.
